French Curves: THE STATEMENT NECKLACE

It’s the 16th of the month, and after being on a little break for a couple of months, I am once again ready to get back into the French Curves Challenge – an outfit photo challenge with the French touch, created by the stunning Vanoue, of The Curvy and Curly Closet!

If you don’t speak French, I’ve got you, boo! As always, an English translation will follow, just keep scrolling down!!!

Il est encore le 16 du mois, et après quelques mois de pause, je suis prêt à nouveau à participer au French Curves Challenge – la collaboration entre blogueuses francophones de taille plus avec la touche française, crée par la ravissante Vanoue, de The Curvy and Curly Closet !

Le thème ce mois-ci: THE STATEMENT NECKLACE

The theme this month: THE STATEMENT NECKLACE

A statement necklace has the power to complete any look.

When you wear one, it’s the first thing everyone sees when they look at your outfit, and as the name suggests, they send a very clear message that you’re fabulous, and I don’t care who knows it!!!

This necklace was hand made by Djénéba, an incredibly talented Malian woman who crafts gorgeous jewelry with materials purchased in her home country.

The meticulous craftsmanship of her jewelry is her greatest passion in life, and it’s very evident if you ever have the chance to visit her “cavern” filled to the gills with sparkling beads which she’s gathered, little by little, with each trip home to Mali to visit her family.

I let the necklace be the star of this outfit, and I paired it with a super simple, chic look, but with enough pizzazz to do it justice.

Simple black leggings, and my sheer, asymmetrical, leopard print tunic by Nadia Aboulhosn for Addition Elle are the perfect pieces to compliment this striking accessory!

And in true Nadia style, a pair of heels put the final touch on the look.

No Pants, No Problem

Seriously… If I could live out the rest of my days without wearing pants and not have anyone look sideways at me — I would. Also winter. Winter would suck, but whatever.

Honestly… I’m not even joking. I love being pantless. It’s a problem.

Now, technically this fantastic little number from the insanely cool Nadia Aboulhosn collection for Boohoois a dress… Just not much of one on me.

You see, when you factor in my 5’8″ish frame, long torso, and ample derrière, it’s kind of a triple threat — the ultimate weapon in the war on dress length (not really a thing, at least once you leave catholic high school and if plaid skirts count).

But I was determined to wear this little piece of perfection the way Nadia Aboulhosn  and her adorably short torso had intended — AKA, in my case, pretty much show the entire neighbourhood the bottom of mah butt cheeks!!! Yeahhhhhh!!!

So no pants, no problem! And I’d be willing to bet, Nadia would agree!!!

Oh!!! And one last thing!!!

Wearable Art, Clearly

Clear Vinyl

Do you ever see a piece of clothing online, or in a store and just feel connected to it, as if your desire for it is stronger than anything else you are feeling at that very moment?

Well, that is precisely what happened when I first laid eyes on this clear vinyl moto jacket, designed by fellow plus sized fashion blogger, Nadia Aboulhosn, for MYNT 1792’s Blogger Collection, as well as these amazing textured Love & Legend joggers from Addition Elle. Once I saw them for the first time, I knew my life just wouldn’t be complete without making them mine. Yes… The desire was that intense.

Now, I can’t say that this awesome, 90’s inspired jacket is the most comfortable item in my closet, but what it lacks in comfort, it makes up for with style. I love the details – the black belt, epaulettes, and the little coin pocket – it is the perfect example of wearable art; and it just works so perfectly with the gorgeous boucle fabric and black trim of the joggers, which incidentally, are so comfortable that they compensate beautifully for any comfort deficit that wearing a plastic jacket may entail.

I decided to go very simple with how I put this outfit together to really showcase this show-stopping jacket and these fab joggers. I’ve paired them with a very basic, Addition Elle, white 2-way tank, a great pair of black patent, pointy toed pumps from Payless, and some gunmetal and clear bracelets, for a clean, striking look with a definite edge.

I love how far the plus size clothing market has come and I truly hope to see more and more fearless pieces like these in the future!
