Regardless of which holidays you celebrate, there is something magical here in Montreal this time of year! The snow-covered rooftops, decorated trees, houses aglow with dazzling multicoloured lights – no one can deny their beauty!
At least for me, there is even something exciting about a crowded shopping mall, or a busy intersection this close to Christmas. I just love seeing everyone rushing about, and wondering where they’re going, who they’re buying that last minute gift basket for, if they are on Santa’s nice list this year, and especially, what they’ll be wearing once they’ve found that train set little Timmy had so wanted, and their flustered, rosy cheeks settle briefly, only to return after a few splendid Christmas cocktails!
What could me a more perfect thing to wear, as I gather with the fam for the first of many celebrations to come this week, than my gorgeous, hunter green, uber fashiony (I know that’s not a word) Monif C. dress!
I paired it with another pair of fab shoes (designed by yours truly) from Shoes of Prey (Have I mentioned how much I love this website?). They’re just the right mix of edginess from the snakeskin, and princessiness (also not a word) from the kitten heel and bows – perfect for a whimsical, festive Christmassy look!
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!!!
So, I was called fat and ugly in front of my kids today by a woman who didn’t like hearing the truth.
While I was in a parking lot, driving away from the store, I witnessed a man in his car, cut off another car (this woman’s) as he left his parking spot. The woman stopped, rolled down her window and screamed at the man, who had a thick accent, calling him a son if a b*tch, and telling him to go back to his f*cking country.
As the man drove off, I looked at the woman like “really!?”
She then pulled up next to my car with a grin, as if I were about to take her side… But I wasn’t. I told her what she said was wrong. Yes, he should have signalled, but I was disgusted by the words she chose to say to this man, who honestly, just made a mistake. See, my husband is a Haitian immigrant, and I would lose my sh*t if anyone ever spoke that way to him!!!
As she tried to defend herself, I rolled up my window, not having any of it. My son continued to look at her, so she drove around to the other side of the car, got out, and attempted to open his door! Like, really!? Luckily, I had locked them.
Frustrated that she couldn’t do whatever it was that she wanted to do to him, she began to scream at me through our closed windows “go on a diet (accompanied by gestures) you fat b*tch, you’re fat and ugly!!!” I just looked her straight in the eye, grinned, and she got back in her car and drove off unsatisfied by my lack of reaction.
All this, in front of my children. I’m so disgusted that she would be so low, but I am not insulted. She, and people like her, just continue to motivate me and fuel my mission. Her ignorance and lack of respect only make me realize how important what I’m doing truly is!!!
I am fat! Nobody can use that to insult me! And although I wish it hadn’t happened, I’m still glad my children got to see how strong I am and how her words of hate did not shake me.
Just figured I’d share, in case any of you ever need a bit of strength when facing a bully; and I’ll also take this opportunity to thank you all once again for being a part of my journey – you have no idea how much you keep me inspired!!!
When it comes to style, it’s easy to forget the simpler things, sometimes. We get so caught up in designer brands, expensive fabrics, and the latest trends, that we forget the classic basics, like the simple, white cotton tee!
In today’s post, I’m bringing myself, and maybe some of my fellow fashionistas back down to earth, and showing how I’ve incorporated three simple t-shirts into my wardrobe in three very different ways.
My first outfit is the perfect weekend on-the-go look. I’m showing love to my curves by wearing the absolute coolest tee from legalizethunderthighs.com.
When paired with a great pair of jeans, a cute cropped jacket, slip on sneakers and a fab handbag, you can turn any tee into the centrepiece of a chic look that will keep you feeling stylish whether you’re at the playground with the kiddos or out shopping with the girls.
In my next look, I’m wearing a plain, white men’s T-shirt from Walmart, but I’ve styled it in a way that could work for anything from the office, to a dinner/movie date. Paired with a classic, wide leg trouser from Addition Elle (technically a straight leg, but for me the cut more resembles a wide leg), a gorgeous, textured blazer – belted, a bold handbag and the perfect nude heels, this look is proof that you can take an ordinary men’s tee to extraordinary, with nothing but a few great accessories!
Last, but not least, I’m paying homage to the place where I was born and raised, the city that I love – Montreal, with my fave tee of all time, which I just happened upon at a Canada Post outlet a while back, while picking up a parcel. Glam up any T-shirt with with a fabulous skirt, like this faux leather one from Addition Elle, an edgy chain necklace, like this one from Forever 21, and a great pair of black boots, like these Addition Elle, ruched beauties, for a rocker-chic look that will definitely give new life to an otherwise simple silhouette.
For me, the perfect tee will never go out if style – they’re inexpensive, and the styling possibilities are limitless! So the next time you walk through the men’s section at your local department store, or your significant other is throwing away his old T-shirt collection, remember not to write off the possibility of scoring one of the most versatile options you could ever add to your wardrobe!

Ever since I picked up this totally awesome, Love & Legend plaid shirt with lace detail at Addition Elle a couple of weeks ago, I’ve basically been living in it. No, seriously. It’s a problem. I hurts me to leave the house in anything else right now… That’s how much I love it. *sigh*
When I wear it, it evokes memories of listening to Hootie & the Blowfish (I only wanna be with youuuuuuu… Tell me you didn’t just sing that in your head as you were reading) in my baggy CK jeans, with slits cut up the sides, and I feel a strong connection to Josh – Paul Rudd’s character in Clueless.
I’ve paired it with a fab pair of white wash, distressed boyfriend jeans from Penningtons, and black & white flats from Walmart. I’ve accessorized with some great pieces from Forever 21 – 90s style, cross earrings and a great gold chain, tucked away under my collar for a subtle edge; and a cool pair of glasses and midi rings (Yes, that IS a triangle shaped ring!!!) complete the look.
Out of their summer slumbers come the cable knits, the quilting, the tweeds and flannels, but the most exciting fall textures this hear have to be the leathers and the faux furs!
How exciting it was to finally see this Michel Studio faux fur vest in store at Addition Elle!!! I had been lusting for it ever since I spotted it in one of this fall’s video promos, and I snapped it up immediately!
I paired it with another one of Addition Elle’s gorgeous decadent, fall pieces – their Love & Legend, black pleather skirt, to really indulge my textural desires.
I opted for a risqué, strappy lace bra from Hips & Curves underneath to add yet another layer to the mix, a sexy pair of laser cut peep toes, gold bangles, dangly earrings, and my fabulous vintage clutch, for an edgy, texture-rich look that will definitely turns up the heat for fall!!!
