What's Black, White & Budget Friendly All Over?

Oooufff! These past couple of weeks have had me so busy, I’ve barely had the time to put on a decent outfit worth taking pictures of, let alone write a blog post!

My husband and I have been slowly working on putting up one of those fancy wooden swing sets in our back yard, and it has not been going well. Let’s just say, I am not a handy person; and my hubby is less than patient… You get the picture… He may or may not have stormed off into his man cave once or twice, but it wasn’t anything that a little beer and and a dip in the pool couldn’t take care of.

We haven’t killed each other yet, despite the fact that our project has stalled at about 90% completion due to rain and total lack of motivation; but it may happen. Just letting you all know, in case you stop hearing from me. Ha.

So today, since I can’t find the strength to go out there and slave over a swing set that has been halfway assembled for so long that its novelty with the kids has already worn off despite not even being finished yet, I’ve decided to be fabulous.

Seeing as all of our money has gone into buying the new swing set, (and beer) there hasn’t been much room for my fashion budget lately; and that’s why I love fast fashion options like Great Glam, where I snagged this black & white, faux silhouette bodycon dress, with mesh sleeves, for a very budget friendly price!

I’ve paired it with a simple, yet standout gold chain necklace from Forever 21, faux leather, wrap bracelet from Addition Elle, and great black patent pumps from Payless, for a polished look that’s as fierce as it is budget friendly.

Tomorrow I’ll face reality (AKA the 50,000 bolts, screws, and washers we have left, that are somehow all supposed to have a place to go) and hopefully finish the job… But in the mean time, just for today, I’m pretending that my dress is expensive, and that I can afford to pay someone to do things for me, like assembling ridiculous wooden swing sets, and such.

Don’t Be a Square

Don't Be a Square

It’s been an interesting couple of days as I’ve been trying to expand Flight of the Fat Girl’s social media presence; and I have to say a huge thank you to all of those who have liked my Facebook page, and have taken the time to follow me on Instagram for a more behind the scenes look! I’d also like to thank the handful of folks who have followed me on Twitter, which I am pretty new to, so bear with me, and keep the eLove coming!

Now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get down to business! In light of my recent expansion into the realms of social media, I’ve decided this adorable dress from Great Glam (or tunic style top if you’re feeling modest) was the perfect way to honor the occasion!

There is something about this dress that reminds me of a retro computer game. The squares mimic the pixelated images I remember so fondly and who could forget the high contrast look of bright color on black!?!? That being said, it’s definitely a modern look with its faux silhouette design and bodycon cut; and let me tell you, it fits like a glove.

I’ve kept the accessories simple, since the fabric of this dress alone, makes such a bold statement already, and I’ve gone with an understated black leather wedge from Aldo, a cool silver cuff bracelet from Armani Exchange that really picks up on the square theme, and matte, red nail polish.

After these past few days, I’m definitely feeling like less of a square and much more tech savvy; and in this great dress, I’m looking the part too! Now, if only I could just figure out Twitter… Ha.

Denying Winter

Denying Winter

Even though we’ve just had another snowstorm here in Montreal, which made for a bit of a wet, sloppy Valentine’s Day (some may argue, that’s the best kind… haha) I am still firmly in denial of winter.

In fact, I am so much in denial, that I have decided not only to rock white pants today, (yes, leggings are pants) but a white/floral top too! I am positively in love with this top (or dress, if you’re in the mood to show a lot of leg) from Great Glam. It’s sweet, cheerful and its floral print is sublime, reminding me of a beautiful springtime watercolor painting. I’ve paired the look with a vibrant blue flat from Payless to tie everything together for a fun, relaxed look that can stick it to winter in style!

Just a side note, Great Glam sizes run small and short, order at least one size up. They market the majority of their pieces as dresses, but especially since I’m tall(ish) and have a long torso, I find that their shorter length items work better as tops, except those times I’m feeling a little risqué because lets face it, it’s been known to happen!
