It’s been a minute since my last post… Mostly because it’s been too cold to shoot outdoors… But since things aren’t looking up anytime soon with regards to weather for us Montrealers… I decided that a bare-legged minidress was the way to go! That’s right!!! F&@% YOU WINTER!!!
And how does a bad B accessorize a minidress at -36ºC? (That’s -32.8ºF for my American friends.) Why, with a fab blazer by Nicolette Mason for Modcloth, heart shaped sunnies (I see you, Valentine’s Day!), a little LV, and the absolute most beautifully delicate and versatile piece of jewelry out there – the infinity chain, from Canadian based, bstrd.com
I mean, this piece is so badass!!! Not only is it crafted out of gorgeous, high end sterling silver and gold vermeil chain, adorned with precious little bobbles of opal and Swarovski crystal, but it can be worn in a multitude of ways to compliment any outfit for any occasion!
I tried out a a few different styling options with my infinity chain, and I honestly really loved how all of them worked out!
It looks so perfect worn as a full on body chain!
So please do go take a look for yourselves, because there are so many unique styles to choose from at bstrd.com; and although the sizes of body jewelry are listed as one size fits all, custom orders/measurements are welcome, and can be discussed with a quick email to: [email protected], or in the comments section of your order!

Because every woman needs a Little Black Dress!
No woman’s wardrobe is quite complete without the perfect little black dress. Many of us even have a whole section of our closets devoted solely to this fashionista’s staple, in all fabrics, styles, and silhouettes!
Oddly enough though, considering all the clothes I have, (which is way more than I need because, #shoppingproblems) I only have three! One is a glitzy sequins number, and the other two are both very simple T-shirt dresses.
T-shirt dresses are my faves because they are just such effortlessly versatile pieces! It never ceases to amaze me how one can be worn as a baggy oversized tee, with belt & a pair of jeans, yet can still be dressed up to create an uber classy, elegant look that nobody would believe was formed around the likes of a glorified T-shirt.
I’ve paired my ASOS Curve LB T-shirt D (Hehee!) with thee absolute most luxurious feather bolero from Addition Elle, faux-fur beanie from ASOS, faux-fur muff from TionDesign and my gorgeous shoes (designed by moi) from Shoes of Prey.
I topped the look off with a fab, old Hollywood style bib necklace and earrings from Forever 21 for a decadent, Art Deco inspired holiday look that lacks in neither comfort, style nor practicality… Okay, it totally lacks in practicality, but how adorable do I look!?
And Just in case you can’t tell, there was a serious blizzard happening here in Montreal during this shoot!

And just like that it’s full blown winter here in Montreal! Snow covered trees, fences, rooftops – it’s so beautiful this time if year… You know… Before the white, fluffy, powdery snow turns into one solid mass of greyish, crystallized, frozen waste…
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves… For now, it still looks like a scene from a good old fashioned holiday movie out there, and it has me feeling swell!
Movies like Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, and classic Christmas music, they have this magical, old-world, holiday charm about them.
When I see the snow sitting upon drooping branches, and smell the intoxicating aroma the neighbour’s wood burning stove, I feel some sort of imagined nostalgia for an era I was never a part of; and my new, pastel blue coat from ELOQUII channels my wistful affection for Christmases past with grace and elegance.
In in keeping with the theme, I’ve paired it with my gorgeous, pale pink, customized (of course) ruffled dress from eShakti, peep toe (yes peep toe) silver pumps from Aldo, a faux-fur, pillbox shaped hat from Forever 21, and a vintage, hand beaded clutch. A knuckle, and midi ring add a fresh, modern touch to this glamorous, retro style and take it into the 21st century.
So, as many of you already know, yesterday was my 32nd birthday!!! Yay!!!
It was also the day that launched the Flight of the Fat Girl YouTube channel, where I will touch base with you in weekly (if not more often) videos, in all my awkward, on-camera glory!!! Yayyy… I think… Ha!
No fashionista’s birthday would be complete without a birthday outfit, so to celebrate I wore this gorgeous, cropped, mustard colour, tweed jacket from Elvi.
I can’t get enough of this jacket’s classic lines, rich yellow color, and how comfortable and versatile it is. Its sophisticated silhouette is an asset to any plus size wardrobe, and its satiny lining feels luxurious, and slips beautifully over anything from bare arms to cotton sleeves; like those of my pretty, eShakti, navy and yellow dress!
Paired with an elegant nude patent pump, a stunning handmade African necklace, a wooden, beaded bracelet from a local market in Haiti, and a great, minimalist clutch from Forever 21 – I was ready for the birthday celebrations to begin!
Don’t forget to check out my first YouTube video, and to subscribe to my channel; and be sure to visit elvi.co.uk to browse their fabulously chic clothing line!
I really had a blast while I was away over the weekend. I shopped, ate good food, took in some sights, but most excitingly of all – I attended Big Deal Toronto (an amazing event, which I talked about about in my last post).
For this special occasion, I decided to take my new, luxurious, cream coloured shawl collar coat from Forever 21+ out on the town!
I paired it with the coolest ever, Lot18 denim overalls from Addition Elle, ivory high neck crop top from Girl With Curves, and cute, pale rose flats from Aldo for a casual, chic look that was perfect for a day of shopping and chatting with some of the most stylish plus size fashionistas I know!!!
I’ve got to mention though – this particular crop top look was quite the risk for me! I wore crop tops all summer long and fell in love, but I had never styled one quite like this – exposing so much of my “vulnerability” (AKA fat rolls… Haha!).
A few years ago I probably would have gasped in horror at the idea of going out in public like this; and I admit, I wasn’t 100% comfortable at first; but as I stood outside and posed for pics I felt confident and beautiful as I bared my love handles in all their fleshy glory!
Crimped hair and few pretty accessories, like midi rings, and these fabulous, front/back faux pearl earrings from Forever 21 topped off this very playful look to perfection.
Capes are a super hot trend this fall, and it’s not hard to see why. They’re comfortable, easy to wear, and come on! They’re capes (!!!), pretty much the coolest articles of clothing any human being can own!!!
I picked up this fabulous geo print cape from Zelie For She over the summer, and I’ve been saving it for the perfect autumn weather like we had over the weekend here in Montreal!
Since it’s a cotton cape, it works equally well over a cami, in lieu of a blazer in warmer weather; but my favorite way to wear it is over a cozy, long sleeved top, like this alligator textured sweater, when it is slightly cooler out.
Paired with some light blue jeggings, black patent pumps for a touch of glam, a stunning, handcrafted African cuff bracelet by La Caverne De Djénéba, and a great pair of sunnies from Forever 21, my cape looked fab and caught the attention of everyone in sight!
As my loyal followers know, I’ve been debating cutting it short again for as long as I’ve been blogging (longer actually) and I finally got the nerve up to go through with it!!! For those of you who don’t, I wrote a blog post at the start of this year detailing my long hair vs. short hair struggle (here).
I went with a cut that would offer me the best of both worlds – an undercut that’s short and edgy, yet long enough on top to showcase my beautiful curls and volume!
A great haircut is nothing without a fab outfit, though, so I rocked my new do with my fave skirt – an acid wash chambray, high-low number from Addition Elle, a vibrant, tribal print crop top from Forever 21+, grey suede, laser cut oxfords from Esprit, and my gorgeous Louis Vuitton Speedy 40 handbag.
For those of you who don’t know what these are, they are the terms that people type into their search engines which lead them to clicking on my blog, and you can believe me when I say that many if these terms are downright hilarious! I’ve seen search terms going from “fat nude white girl” all the way to “big black sexy naked beauty.”
Yup. Nudity is almost always in there somewhere; but the second most common search terms I see go something along the lines of “how to wear plus size harem pants.”
I gather, from how often these search terms come up, that harem pants continue to be a coveted, yet intimidating style among the full figured community, and I totally understand. I was, at one time very much nervous about wearing them too.
See, and I know I’ve discussed this with you many times before, I have a serious case of the bum-tum (tummy that looks like a second butt in the front), and harem pants have proven to be a huge struggle to pull off (not literally off, that part is easy).
I wrote another post a while back (here) about with a tip on wearing a peplum top, or belt to help disguise your tummy. I still love this idea, but I’ve come up with another.
As you can see, I’ve paired the same harem pants (Forever 21+) from my other post, with this absolutely delicious blue, vintage style tee from Addition Elle; and instead of tucking it in and putting my belly on display, I’ve left it untucked, except for a small bit of it on one side. This way, you have nearly full tummy coverage while still showing off the signature high waist and pockets of the pants at the same time. It’s the best of both worlds!
Pair the ensemble with colourful flats and a bright handbag for a casual, chic, put together look that incorporates the on trend look of harem pants with the comfort of knowing you’re tummy is hidden.
As the fall collections roll out (I’ll admit it, I’m excited), and the days start to noticeably shorten; as the back to school supplies hit the shelves and much to their chagrin, we begin mentioning to our kids that’s school will be starting again soon, it’s easy to forget that it’s still summer – at least for a little while longer here in Montreal.
To remind myself of this, I broke out my white Bermudas from Addition Elle, and 3/4 length sleeve, white blazer from Torrid, this weekend. I’d been waiting to wear them so my best friend’s baby shower on Saturday was the perfect occasion!
I paired the pieces with this lovely ombré, ruffled tank top, my trusty nude, T-strap flats, a vintage Berma Paris snakeskin clutch (circa 1975), my gold bangles, pretty stud earrings and a transparent, iridescent chain link necklace from Forever 21 that matched beautifully with the colours in my top.
This outfit was the perfect reminder that summer hasn’t ended yet, and as much fun as it is to start planning fall outfits, it’s better not to wish your life away, but rather to live in the moment sometimes, and get every little bit of pleasure from life in, while you can!
