Winter White Legs

IMG_3397.JPGSo… I don’t do the tanning thing, and no matter the season, these are how my legs look; but I’ve never really noticed it, or thought to address it quite as much as I did the other day when I decided to expose my pasty-whites against a backdrop of snow.

IMG_3436.JPGSee, I have a hard time with pantyhose. I honestly don’t know if there is anyone else there with this problem, but… The skin on the insides of my thighs is so soft and thin, that it actually seeps through the weaving of the pantyhose and I end up getting worse chub rub than if I had worn nothing at all. I’ve tried sizing up, I’ve tried different brands – nothing works. I’ve just accepted it. This is my hose-less life; and it is why you’ll see that I’m never wearing them no matter what the weather.

THERE! I said it!

I’ve actually gotten quite used to it, though. Despite my grandmother thinking I’m nuts, I don’t really get cold. Obvi I’m not choosing these types of outfits for activities where I will be spending any extended period in the cold outdoors, but barelegged, wintertime looks have been known to happen.

IMG_3444.JPGAnd I’ve made total peace with my fair complexion, and cottage cheese thighs (I happen to love cottage cheese, thank you very much!).

IMG_3435.JPGI also love how this transitional weather gives me a good excuse to wear adorable ruffled socks!

IMG_3370.JPG

IMG_3373.JPGAnd my faux-fur vest from Addition Elle, which works so perfectly over this fab sheer, burgundy blouse which I scored at the BIG Deal Toronto, closet sale from fellow plus size style blogger, Jessica, of Clothes and Shit. What can I say, the girl’s got taste!

IMG_3364.JPGNow, I can’t say that I wouldn’t love to find the perfect pair of pantyhose… But it just hasn’t happened for me yet.

IMG_3379.JPGSo until then, I will be blinding the public with my legs, year round, with no apologies! I’ve always been a rebel, anyway. Take that, grandma!!! 😛

YAAASSSSS!!!

I did it!!! I did it!!! I finally cut my hair and I’m AHHH-dorable!!! Haha!

IMG_6849.JPG
As my loyal followers know, I’ve been debating cutting it short again for as long as I’ve been blogging (longer actually) and I finally got the nerve up to go through with it!!! For those of you who don’t, I wrote a blog post at the start of this year detailing my long hair vs. short hair struggle (here).

I went with a cut that would offer me the best of both worlds – an undercut that’s short and edgy, yet long enough on top to showcase my beautiful curls and volume!

IMG_6850.JPG
A great haircut is nothing without a fab outfit, though, so I rocked my new do with my fave skirt – an acid wash chambray, high-low number from Addition Elle, a vibrant, tribal print crop top from Forever 21+, grey suede, laser cut oxfords from Esprit, and my gorgeous Louis Vuitton Speedy 40 handbag.

IMG_6853.JPG
I’m feeling liberated and rejuvenated!!! Ahhh… Change is good!!!

Harem Pants For The Tummy Conscious

IMG_6258.JPG
So, I like to browse my blog’s search terms from time to time (okay, a lot).

For those of you who don’t know what these are, they are the terms that people type into their search engines which lead them to clicking on my blog, and you can believe me when I say that many if these terms are downright hilarious! I’ve seen search terms going from “fat nude white girl” all the way to “big black sexy naked beauty.”

Yup. Nudity is almost always in there somewhere; but the second most common search terms I see go something along the lines of “how to wear plus size harem pants.”

IMG_6300.JPG
I gather, from how often these search terms come up, that harem pants continue to be a coveted, yet intimidating style among the full figured community, and I totally understand. I was, at one time very much nervous about wearing them too.

See, and I know I’ve discussed this with you many times before, I have a serious case of the bum-tum (tummy that looks like a second butt in the front), and harem pants have proven to be a huge struggle to pull off (not literally off, that part is easy).

I wrote another post a while back (here) about with a tip on wearing a peplum top, or belt to help disguise your tummy. I still love this idea, but I’ve come up with another.

IMG_6250.JPG
As you can see, I’ve paired the same harem pants (Forever 21+) from my other post, with this absolutely delicious blue, vintage style tee from Addition Elle; and instead of tucking it in and putting my belly on display, I’ve left it untucked, except for a small bit of it on one side. This way, you have nearly full tummy coverage while still showing off the signature high waist and pockets of the pants at the same time. It’s the best of both worlds!

Pair the ensemble with colourful flats and a bright handbag for a casual, chic, put together look that incorporates the on trend look of harem pants with the comfort of knowing you’re tummy is hidden.

Green Tea, Gossip, And Glam

20140717-144533-53133023.jpg
So, I grabbed lunch and a coffee (by coffee, I mean iced green tea, loaded with sugar, cancelling out all possible health benefits) with my favourite ladies yesterday; and I decided to wear one of the newest additions to my closet – this sassy, blush coloured muscle tee from Forever 21+, with the words “eat your heart out” printed across the front.

20140717-143539-52539942.jpg
I am in love with this this top!!! I love a cute graphic tee, but this one is just so perfect, so tongue in cheek, and it works on so many levels!

20140717-153422-56062939.jpg
I paired it with a simple black pencil skirt with waist detail, but I wanted to glam my look up a bit, so I accessorized with this gorgeous iridescent necklace, which looks ridiculously like real opals (swoon), bracelets, as always, and these adorable round, nude framed sunnies which I just picked up on sale at Forever 21, and I absolutely adore!

20140717-144708-53228563.jpg
And finished the look off with my go to footwear this summer, my nude flats, which I will cry over the day they inevitably go to shoe heaven.

20140717-144905-53345208.jpg
It was a beautiful afternoon, filled with giggles, goodies and of course, a little gossip, (don’t judge, you know you do it too) and it was just what I needed this week!!!

Cheers!

Paradise Print

20140627-153449-56089669.jpg
Ok… I’ve been SO excited to wear this dress, and now that I have it on, I can’t stop smiling!!!

From the minute I first laid eyes on it, I just knew… This is the one. The flattering length, bodycon cut, and the print… Ohhh, the PRINT!!! I can’t even!!! When I look at it, it evokes images of coconuts, sand, and ocean waves… A dusty roadside marketplace, colorful linens and mangoes for sale… It is, in a word, perfection.

I’ve paired this fabulous dress from Posh Shoppe with this stunning, regal necklace and twisted hoop earrings from Forever 21, my signature gold bangles, and pretty yellow and cognac colored wedges.

I’ve pulled my hair up in a big, luxurious bun for an elegant, exotic look that definitely lives up to this dress’s fantastic tropical print.

And so… I’m just gonna come right out and say it – I look HOT!!! So hot, in fact, that I couldn’t help myself… I even took a belfie!!! That’s a butt selfie, by the way!

YAAASSSSS!!!

Summertime Happiness

20140619-113815-41895588.jpg

Summer is right around the corner, and we all know what that means!!! More shopping!!!

I’ve been busy putting together my summer wardrobe – lots of white, lots of color, and lots of prints and texture!

Today, I’m rocking this fun, tribal print bodycon dress from Forever 21+ (which is sadly, sold out right now, but similar options are available). I’ve paired it with these great turquoise wedges from Payless, some gold bangles, and these amazing, Forever 21 multicolored hoop earrings, for a bright, vibrant look that’s perfect for summertime!

Fat Girl And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamkimono

Fat Girl and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamkimono

Yes…  Dreamkimono.

It’s been raining for two days straight here in Montreal, so I figured I would brighten up my day (and hopefully yours, regardless of the weather) with this very colorful post, featuring this stunning, multi-colored floral kimono from Forever 21+ and this amazingly vibrant necklace from ALDO Accessories.

I’ve paired these pieces with my trusty black leggings from Additon Elle, a reddish-orange tank top (Forever 21+) which matches perfectly with the kimono, cute T-strap flats (Forever 21) and some colorful bracelets, to create a bold, lively look that could brighten up just about anyone’s day!

Since the start of this year, I challenged myself, and I went from someone who feared wearing color, to… Well… This girl that you see here! I’ve already received so many compliments on this outfit – it’s crazy! I never could have imagined that I would feel so free and confident wearing such bright, bold hues, but let me tell you, it feels amazing!!!

All can say is this – never be afraid to be seen. Do not feel like you should be invisible. Wear color! There is a joy that comes from wearing beautiful colors that I never new existed until I really gave it a shot; and I would hate for any of you to miss out on this fantastic feeling!!!

Who wears short shorts?

Who wears short shorts?

I wear short shorts! I DO!!!

Before buying these adorable printed shorts from Forever 21+, I hadn’t worn a pair since gym class in my early teens. I had long believed, been told, and heard said that they were reserved for thin legged, gap-thighed ladies with no cellulite – that a girl like me had no business subjecting anyone to such a sight. But lately I’ve been feeling inspired. I’ve been seeing more and more voluptuous, curvy, plus size ladies breaking through society’s beauty barriers and rocking short shorts confidently, and I just had to try and get in on some of the action!

I have to say, it was not the easiest task… When you’re fat, your thighs tend to rub together while you walk and things can get a bit tricky. Wearing my shorts wasn’t as simple as I would have liked, but I found, once I stopped trying to pull them down constantly and gave into their short short length, the bunching at the crotch stopped being an issue. To my absolute joy (and moderate disbelief) I was actually able to wear them without looking like I had a banana in my pocket!!! (Or was I just happy to see you?)

But in case, due to body type or style, your shorts refuse to cooperate, there exists, a product called NoRiders, which I am now dying to try! The product consists of iron on and sew in strips for your inseam, which are apparently very effective at preventing shorts from riding up at the crotch. I will definitely be letting you know how they work out once I’ve gotten my hands on some!

Anyway, all fat girl, thigh rubbing, crotch riding (sounds like some new painful Olympic demo sport) aside, I felt amazing in my new shorts!  I paired them with this great boohoo.com black, oversized t-shirt dress, (seen in cream color and styled differently in my older post “Winter Is Coming, And Coming…  And Coming“) belted at the waist, and accessories like this beautiful statement ring from Forever 21, my favorite black turban from BABOOSHKA, and these amazing, inexpensive black and gold sandals from Walmart, to create the perfect boho-chic, summer look that works for anything from a day at the park chasing after the kiddies to a sun-filled afternoon on the lido deck with your glorious, dimpled upper thighs proudly on display, letting everyone know that you have the right to be cool and comfortable in the heat too!!!

Exotic Accessories

Exotic Accessories

An outfit is never complete without accessories, and I picked up a few beautiful, hand crafted pieces at local markets in Haiti, while I was there.

Haiti is filled with resourceful artisans who are capable of creating absolute jewels out of just about anything locally available. When setting foot into a Haitian marketplace you will find, among other things, accessories made of anything from discarded pieces of plastic, which are sculpted and polished into stunning rings and pendants, to wood, or even telephone wire, which is wrapped in string or ribbon to create beautiful bracelets.

These delicate shell necklaces and this gorgeous polished “kòn bèf” (bull horn) pendant were my finds, along with a gorgeous necklace and bracelet set made entirely out of hand strung seeds, which I will show off to you in a future post.

I’ve paired my natural, earthy bobbles with a basic black tank top and leggings from Addition Elle, a light peach colored, cap sleeve top from Forever 21+, which I’ve left open to flow in the breeze and graze my bountiful hips; and my trusty, nude, captoe flats from Payless, for a look of simple, casual perfection with an exotic touch – just right for adding a little Caribbean warmth to a damp, rainy Montreal afternoon.
