That WAS the question…
Whether you call them sneakers, trainers, or runners/running shoes (I’m looking at you, my fellow Canadians!) I have never really been a ‘sneakers’ kinda girl. Besides the fact that I hate closed in shoes, not to mention, my disdain for wearing socks, I’ve never found a pair that felt like, well… Me… Until I stumbled upon these Nike Roshe Run Sneakerboots, in none other than, the men’s section on ASOS.com.
Here’s a quick shoe size conversion table which may come in handy if, like me, you ever find yourself enamoured with a men’s shoe that you just can’t live without:
Sneakers, Asos – here
So… I don’t do the tanning thing, and no matter the season, these are how my legs look; but I’ve never really noticed it, or thought to address it quite as much as I did the other day when I decided to expose my pasty-whites against a backdrop of snow.
See, I have a hard time with pantyhose. I honestly don’t know if there is anyone else there with this problem, but… The skin on the insides of my thighs is so soft and thin, that it actually seeps through the weaving of the pantyhose and I end up getting worse chub rub than if I had worn nothing at all. I’ve tried sizing up, I’ve tried different brands – nothing works. I’ve just accepted it. This is my hose-less life; and it is why you’ll see that I’m never wearing them no matter what the weather.
THERE! I said it!
I’ve actually gotten quite used to it, though. Despite my grandmother thinking I’m nuts, I don’t really get cold. Obvi I’m not choosing these types of outfits for activities where I will be spending any extended period in the cold outdoors, but barelegged, wintertime looks have been known to happen.
And my faux-fur vest from Addition Elle, which works so perfectly over this fab sheer, burgundy blouse which I scored at the BIG Deal Toronto, closet sale from fellow plus size style blogger, Jessica, of Clothes and Shit. What can I say, the girl’s got taste!

So, as many of you already know, yesterday was my 32nd birthday!!! Yay!!!
It was also the day that launched the Flight of the Fat Girl YouTube channel, where I will touch base with you in weekly (if not more often) videos, in all my awkward, on-camera glory!!! Yayyy… I think… Ha!
No fashionista’s birthday would be complete without a birthday outfit, so to celebrate I wore this gorgeous, cropped, mustard colour, tweed jacket from Elvi.
I can’t get enough of this jacket’s classic lines, rich yellow color, and how comfortable and versatile it is. Its sophisticated silhouette is an asset to any plus size wardrobe, and its satiny lining feels luxurious, and slips beautifully over anything from bare arms to cotton sleeves; like those of my pretty, eShakti, navy and yellow dress!
Paired with an elegant nude patent pump, a stunning handmade African necklace, a wooden, beaded bracelet from a local market in Haiti, and a great, minimalist clutch from Forever 21 – I was ready for the birthday celebrations to begin!
Don’t forget to check out my first YouTube video, and to subscribe to my channel; and be sure to visit elvi.co.uk to browse their fabulously chic clothing line!
I’ve been holding back, but I’m so excited to finally announce to all of you that the Montreal Gazette has done a story on me and my blog!!! Aaaaahhh!!! So crazy!!! Check it out online, or, to my fellow Montrealers, coming up in the Extra section if this Weekend’s paper!!!
I feel so honoured and excited – can’t stop smiling!!! What a fabulous way to celebrate my one year blogiversary!!!
A HUGE thank you to Danielle, for this opportunity, to Fatima, the author of the article, and to Allen, who braved a nasty cold and made it out to do the shoot like a champ!!!
I also have some pics of my own, because I know you’ll all be wondering what I’m wearing!!!
Here I am, ready for my close-up, in my new fave tuxedo blazer and boyfriend jeans from Penningtons, paired with a fab, mauve, sleeveless blouse from Addition Elle, blue suede, alligator textured flats from Aldo, and thee most amazing Ted Baker, springbok clutch that I scooped up thanks to the closet sale of fellow plus size blogger babe, and friend, Thera of Cloud14+ (who’s taste, might I add, is impeccable!).
So, I grabbed lunch and a coffee (by coffee, I mean iced green tea, loaded with sugar, cancelling out all possible health benefits) with my favourite ladies yesterday; and I decided to wear one of the newest additions to my closet – this sassy, blush coloured muscle tee from Forever 21+, with the words “eat your heart out” printed across the front.
I paired it with a simple black pencil skirt with waist detail, but I wanted to glam my look up a bit, so I accessorized with this gorgeous iridescent necklace, which looks ridiculously like real opals (swoon), bracelets, as always, and these adorable round, nude framed sunnies which I just picked up on sale at Forever 21, and I absolutely adore!
