Fall Off The Shoulder

Well, it’s officially fall! Time for all the layering, all the scarves, sweaters, and boots… Right? Well… Maybe not just yet.

Just because it’s fall, doesn’t mean we have to start tossing out our fave trends from summer! Most of them carry just beautifully over into fall, and this (and last) summer’s off-the-shoulder trend is no different!

This stunning royal blue dress from SexyPlus is a must have for any fall wardrobe. It’s incredibly comfortable yet impressively structured. Look at those gorgeous pleats! Look at them!!!

Its off-the-shoulder style is elegant and alluring, and its rich jewel tone is perfect for the current seasonal transition period as well as the cooler months ahead.

Paired with a pretty lace choker (also from SexyPlus), a great pair of sunnies, a vintage clutch, and a cute pair of black leather gloves just in case it does get a little chilly out, this whole ensemble has a classic, old world feel about it that I seem to find myself drawn to like a magnet this season… Maybe it’s my hair (which has taken on some sort of retro vibe of its own as I’ve been trying to grow it out), but I can’t seem to get enough of it!

And can we talk about how good this dress looks with these galaxy coloured, sparkly kitten heels? If perfection were one inch of the ground, this look would be it, and I’m not sorry!

So don’t be so quick to stash your more summery pieces at the back of your closet just yet. You’ve still got plenty of time to take them out to play this fall, and who knows, you may even find yourself reworking them again come winter!

The Here, The Now, And The Leopard Print Dress

Is it really almost August!? In just over a month, will I really be back to fighting with my kids to wake up in the morning, packing school lunches, and arguing over homework!? Ugh. Where has the time gone? Am I the only parent that dreads the start of the school year every fall? I’m sorry, (not sorry) but those “it’s the most wonderful time of the year” Staples (or, Bureau en Gros, here is Quebec) commercials are all lies, and nobody will ever be able to convince me otherwise.

We still have another month to go though, so rather than get ahead of myself, which is hard to do with my daughter already breathing down my neck about locker accessories (She’s probably the only kid I’ve ever known who was actually excited about back to school, and did you know they sell locker chandeliers and carpets? Me neither.), I’m trying to make the most of what’s left before the leaves start to fall off the trees, spiralling downward, alongside my sanity.

It’s all about bright colours and all things summery for me these days (except when I just feel like wearing back, because black) and this dress from IBBI is basically my whole life right now.

I wore the magenta version of it recently on the blog, and you can imagine my surprise when its turquoise blue sister showed up on my doorstep! It’s not everyday your blogger mail is so absolutely perfect, and unexpected, to boot!

Now, I joke (mostly) about dreading the the end of summer, but if there’s one thing that can remind me that it’s not over yet, it’s vibrantly coloured leopard print! It’s bold, flashy, and everything summer clothes should look like! The irony is, that because of its incredibly versatile fabric, oddly enough it will actually be the ideal fall dress too!

It kind of makes it hard to resent a whole season when you realize that one of your favourite dresses will be perfect for it. So what if happy summer mommy transforms into her alter ego, stressed irritable mommy? At least she’ll look fab, right!?

I kid, I kid… But for real though, it’s always awesome when great clothes have the undisputed potential to transition effortlessly into another season, especially summer to fall. Let’s face it, for many of us, that’s already a frustrating enough passage, so not needing to rethink our wardrobes is a definite bonus!

This gorgeous leopard print dress from IBBI, paired with cute, lace-up wedges from Penningtons, and flamboyant yellow earrings is everything I need to keep me in the present. Its ability to be the perfect fall dress too, however, is a friendly reminder that it’s okay for me to plan for the future without getting ahead of myself.

Sometimes we just need to live in the here and now, and while it’s still summer, I will do my best to savour it instead of (as my mother would say) wishing my life away (which I have a tendency of doing each year around this time).

I have no choice but to think ahead. I’ve got my oldest son commencing his final year of high school (holy crap) and my youngest son starting his first day of kindergarten (um, also holy crap), not to mention my two middles (that’s what I like to call them) going into grades 5 and 8. Life now requires more planning than ever, but those little things that keep us focused on the present moment are key.

Who would have thought that a leopard print dress would have such a profound effect on me… But hey! Who am I to question the things that contribute to my mental health!?

The important thing to take away from all of this is that we all need to recognize the little reminders that the universe sends out to us. They come in many forms, in my case, in the form of a surprise package on my doorstep. Don’t find yourself worrying so much about what’s to come (back to school, yuck), that you don’t let yourself enjoy what already is (summer, yay). We all need our own leopard print dresses every now and again… Mine just happened to be a literal one this time. See blog post about pink version of this dress here

My Uniform

Have you ever had an outfit you just feel like you could literally wear every single day and never get sick of it?

That’s how I’ve been feeling about this look for the past few weeks. Basically, I call it my uniform now because I wear it so often. It got to the point where, the other day, I got ready to go out and didn’t wear it, and my kids were like, oh! Wow! You changed!!!

It’s bad. I mean, don’t get me wrong… It’s good, really good… But it’s getting in the way of my style evolution, and I’m pretty sure my neighbours, whom are wonderful people, are secretly judging me every time I walk out of the house wearing the same thing.

But come on!!! How could one not want to wear this gorgeous chiffon tunic with crocheted detail and soft jersey longline vest from Addition Elle everywhere!? They’re so perfect!!!

Of course, I change the bottoms around all the time, wearing these cute, inexpensive Walmart jeggings, distressed skinny jeans, and jorts interchangeably; but the overal look remains the same— kind of like a super chic hair stylist who definitely charges an arm and a leg for a blowout, and you probably couldn’t even afford a cut from unless you were a Kardashian.

(Note to self: learn to cut hair so you can charge an arm and a leg for a haircut, and become the Kardashian’s hairdresser. Legally change your name to just Cynthïa, with the two dots because it looks cooler, and start your own hashtag… Something catchy… Like, #CynthïaWillCutYou or #GetCynthïaed. Maybe both.)

Where was I…? Oh yes! Can we also talk about how cute these Aldo flats are!? At this point in my life, I’ve all but ditched heels completely in lieu of comfort, and needless to say, flats have definitely become an integral part of my wardrobe lately, even more than they used to be; and they definitely look adorable with my outfit!!!

So if you’ve ever had a favourite outfit that has reached repeat offender status, just know that you’re not alone. If you love it, wear it! Wear it every damn day if you want to! Never worry what anyone thinks, because A) once you walk out of the house past your judgy neighbours, chances are that nobody will have seen you in it yet, and B) even if they have, who cares, they’re probably jealous of how cute you look anyway!!!

Why I Wear White

I used to be afraid to wear white. I loved the way it looked on others, clean and crisp, but on myself, I thought all it did was exaggerate my flaws and make me look like a refrigerator. I did everything to remain inconspicuous back then, assuming that being noticed equaled being laughed at. Needless to say,  I never really wore much white.

I think a lot of women have had similar feelings towards white. We are taught that it makes us look bigger, and we all know that’s the worst thing a person could ever be, right? Ugh…

That’s the problem though… From very early on, as soon as the world realizes we’re fat, we are given this set of rules to live by, which are drilled into our brains so deeply that we forget how ridiculous they are, and we end up truly believing them.

Society is sitting there thinking they’re doing us some wonderful favour by teaching us how not to look fatter than we already are, while its really they, who are in need of a lesson, oh, perhaps on how not to be a complete A-hole? Yeah. That sounds about right.

So I wear white proudly now. I wear it as two middle fingers to the rules that have been laid down by generations of self-loathing people before me who never knew the joy of unapologetic self-love.

I wear it because, unlike society, I don’t believe that looking bigger is among the greatest of all evils.

And most of all, I wear it because I love it. I always have, and it makes me feel beautiful!

No fictional set of rules will ever be able to convince me otherwise. I make my own rules about my bod, how I dress it, and nobody can take that away from me!!!

Be My Valentine?

I’ve never done a lingerie post before…

The idea of putting my body out there to be picked apart, and being judged and slut shamed in the process has been something that has held me back and made me think that this type of post just wasn’t for me…

Then this sexy little number, a leopard print chemise from SexyPlus came my way, and it got me thinking…

With each fear I’ve conquered, I’ve become more powerful. I’ve become stronger, and more confident. I’ve gotten to know more about who I am, and what I deserve.

Sure, not everyone will approve. This will definitely ruffle a few feathers…

Many will judge, because that’s just what people do…

But… The reality is, I spent a lifetime hiding—sometimes to the point of physical discomfort, just to spare the world’s eyes of the parts of me that I felt were so appalling, that nobody should see.

So if this makes you uncomfortable, I’m not sorry. I’m not sorry because I don’t have to be… I never did, and I know that now.

I don’t need to show my body in order to prove anything to anyone. What feels empowering for me may not be what empowers you, and that’s okay… I choose to show it…  Not all of it, but most, because I have nothing to prove, but to myself, that I can be vulnerable, unapologetic, and not give a shit what anyone thinks of me. This is my own personal challenge. My body, my choice.

I’m not what society calls, a good fatty. I have rippled inner thighs, and a stretch mark covered belly that hangs down. I have sagging breasts, a double chin, and arms that jiggle when I raise them…

But I’m beautiful.

I’m worthy.

Right down to my back fat and dimpled butt.

So this year, I have asked myself, will you be my valentine?

As much as I love my husband, and thank him dearly for snapping these gorgeous shots that have made me feel so bold and strong… My answer to myself is, yes!

Yes I will be my valentine, because sometimes self-love deserves to be celebrated too, and this Valentine’s Day, that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

Happy Valentine’s Day!!! ❤️

1 Body Chain, 2 Ways, and 2 Countries

When I was away in Haiti last August, I managed to sneak in one one photo shoot. I never published the pictures, but there’s a reason why…

Everything was perfect—my Monif C. fringed swimsuit, my ASOS sandals, and of course, my Ready To Stare body harness…

Perfect, except for the fact that I was wearing it wrong—because screwing up is kind of my thing… *sigh*

But the beach was exquisite, as was my beautiful fat bod in that suit, and honestly, even though I wore it wrong, the chain body harness actually looked pretty amazing this way too!

So, I decided to shoot some fab pics back home in Canada, wearing it the right way this time (Duh!) with a fab Kiyonna dress from SexyPlus Clothing, to show everyone that you can definitely have some fun playing around with body chains! We’ll just keep the fact that this was a totally unintentional discovery between us, though… K?

We can also keep the fact that it took me nearly six months to get around to shooting the second half of this post… Because procrastination is also my thing…

But it all actually worked out, because the contrast between my natural, freckled skin under the golden Haitian sun, and my ultra glam look, set against the backdrop of an icy frozen lake, is truly quite amazing!

And the discovery that this body chain is much more versatile than I had ever expected was a definite bonus!

Sure, I wish I was on a beach in Haiti again right now, after sifting through my vacation photos… But at least I know I have my body chain to add some pizazz to my swimsuits on my next trip, and until then, it can look just as awesome in the snow!

New Year's Eve

I don’t know about you, but I always get a little verklempt come New Year’s Eve (as I think many of us do) because it’s just such a symbolic time of change, rich in nostalgia and the warm fuzzy holiday feels; but this year, I’ve found myself even more in my feelings than I’ve ever been before.

I’ve overcome a great deal of personal challenges this year. It wasn’t easy. I will go so far as to say that I survived 2015, more than I lived it; but with each obstacle, I became stronger, better, faster (okay, not faster), and I learned to be very proud of who I am, and the people in my life.

I can honestly say, although in the thick of things, it was hard to acknowledge, it has been an amazing year despite it all, because alongside all the crap that it threw my way, a lot of great stuff happened too!

The greatest gifts I could have possibly received this year are that of realizing that I’m a much more resilient person than I ever imagined myself to be. I’ve finally learned to trust that I will overcome, I will thrive, and I’ve see just how much of a rock I am to my family.

It’s a good feeling to know that I’m deserving of this status. I don’t think I had ever felt that I was until this year. I know now that I deserve to be happy, not just about my body, but about my choices as a mother, a wife, and most importantly, a woman.

Difficult times may seem a little (ok, hell of a lot) confusing, but trusting yourself to make sense of that confusion is definitely something to be proud of, and I have finally been able to accomplish it.

Although life if full of grey areas, at least some things can still be black and white, and my New Year’s Eve dress from City Chic is just that—black, white and elegant all over! I’m totally obsessed with the lace detail, and its playfully pleated sheer skirt!

Paired with my fabulous feather bolero, a dazzling statement necklace, and delicate, handmade crystal earrings from Cristy Ellen K

A pretty pair of leather gloves…

And printed tights from Addition Elle, with my beautiful, black, sparkly, T-strap pumps that I designed from Shoes Of Prey, I am ready for that ball to drop, and to welcome in the new year, surrounded by the people I love the most!

Happy New Year’s Eve, loves!!! Bring on 2016!!!

Fall Trends Vote & Giveaway

Fall is undeniably upon us… And with yesterday’s dusting of snow here in Montreal, one could argue that winter is already poking its head out from around the corner — but Jesus fix it! I’m not ready!!!

So to celebrate all those things I love about fall while it’s still here, the changing colours, cool crisp air, (and duhhh) the sweaters (!!!) I teamed up with Addition Elle, Penningtons, and super babe, Joëlle Vaillancourt, who some of you may know from the show Le Cahier (The Booklet) on MAtv, and we picked out our three fave fall trends!

But that’s not all!!! All the falling leaves have gotten us feeling curious, and a little generous too!

So, we’d like to know YOUR fave fall trend, and if you head over to Instagram to vote, you could be eligible* to win our #CurvyFatGiveaway of a fab fall shopping spree of $150 from Addition Elle and $100 from Penningtons!

#1 is not only a fall fave of ours, but it is also 2015’s Pantone colour of the yearMarsala

Whether you’re layering wine on wine like me, in this great, fringed sweater and faux-leather, faux-fur trimmed jacket from Penningtons…

Or wearing different tones of it on top and bottom like Joëlle is in these vibrant, velvety soft, corduroy leggings from Penningtons and this rich, deep coloured, fooler sweater from Addition Elle…

Marsala is definitely our go to colour this fall, and you can totally see why!

#2 is evvverywhere right now — Suede! And it is without question, a big part of every fashionistas fall wardrobe this year, and we love it too!!!

Wear it as the perfect base to an all black, date night look, like I’ve done with these gorgeous faux-suede leggings from Penningtons, for a luxurious, richly textured look that will be sure to add depth to any outfit…

Or as a standout piece, like Joëlle has done with this amazing faux-suede, camel coloured skirt from Addition Elle, for a striking look, rich texture and quirky elegance…

No matter how you wear it, suede definitely brings a lot to the table, and we’re hoping this trend will stick around well though spring so we can continue to have fun with it!

#3 is last but not least, and probably my fave of all — 70s! This trend is reappearing once more, but this time with a very sophisticated elegance about it!

You can rock an empowering androgynous 70s look, like I’ve done with these amazing plaid pants, and printed blouse with elongated cuffs from Penningtons, paired with a long, sleek necklace, and a fantastic faux-fur collared wool trench from Addition Elle, for a look that’s a combination of Eric Foreman and Donna Pinciotti all in one! (If you don’t get that reference, we can’t be friends — just kidding, but it’s on Netflix so go watch… Now!)

You can also do 70s glam, like Joëlle, and rock a great pair of wide leg jeans, like these ones from Penningtons, with a sexy, bell-sleeved top, like this lace crop, and beaded crocheted choker from Addition Elle. Bring on those disco nights!!!

As you can see, the 70s may be a bygone era, but they’re still alive and well in fashion this fall!!!

So, which will it be? Be sure to head over to Instagram to vote on your fave once a day, and follow all the entry rules* for a chance to win a fab fall shopping spree, courtesy of Joëlle, moi, and our amazing sponsors, Addition Elle and Penningtons!

Point Zero Curvy – Date Night

It’s time for the third, and final instalment of my Point Zero Curvy Mix and Match series!

I’ve taken 5 pieces from the new Point Zero Curvy line, and styled and remixed three looks in three days, one for work, weekend, and of course, today’s look — date night!!!

In case you hadn’t already noticed in part 1 and part 2 of this series, I’m obsessed with this faux-leather jacket!

It’s without question, the most versatile piece in my closet right now, and whether it’s for work, on the weekend, or draped over the shoulders, out on a date, there is so much style packed into this one jacket, that it works with just about every look!

I’ve paired it with two pieces you may also recognize from the last two posts — these awesome, black shimmery pants that I wore in yesterday’s weekend post

And this gorgeous embellished knit top, which I wore tucked in to my skirt, in Wednesday’s work look

What you didn’t see on Wednesday, was the stunning back of this top! I was saving it for date night, because, it’s always fun to show a little skin, especially in such an unexpected way!

And while you can wear it zipped all the way down, I just love the sexy little peek-a-boo effect when left unzipped… Not to mention, it shows off the booty while remaining elegant and refined! Umm… #Winning!!!

With some cute accessories that pick up on the beautiful gunmetal embellishments on the top…

And my favourite black patent, not-too-high-heeled pumps, I’m all set for, dinner, drinks, and maybe a little dancing?

It can be hard to imagine pieces in your wardrobe being dual, or even triple-purpose sometimes. We get so used to wearing outfits, well — as outfits (if that makes any sense), and we forget that when we have quality garments, with fabulous texture, detail, and bold styling, like the Point Zero Curvy collection, mixing and matching becomes a snap!

This concludes my three part series, but you can shop the Point Zero Curvy line at pointzero.ca or point-zero.com for international customers, as well as in store at retailers such as SexyPlus Clothing, in Mississauga, Ontario.

Some items have not been released yet, so keep your eyes open, and I’ll be sure to post links here, once they are!

Don’t forget to follow Point Zero on Facebook and Instagram @pointzeroclothing, and on their new Insta, just for us plus size babes, @pointzerocurvy, to keep up to date on their latest collections and promotions!
