Call Me Hot Pink

Call Me Hot Pink

There is something I find so ridiculously irresistible about this color. It’s bright and cheerful, sultry and seductive all at once without even trying.

If I could be a color, hot pink would be my name; and there really isn’t much more I can say to describe how I feel about it because its entrancing glow speaks for itself.

Full Bodied Fine Wine

Full Bodied Fine Wine

I am far from being a conaisseur of wine, but I know what I like, and there are very few things more pleasurable than a deep, rich red to brighten up a grey January evening.

When I first put on this elegant frock from Monif C. I couldn’t help but realize that if red wine could be spun into fabric, and made into garments, this would be the outcome.

When it comes to evening wear, this full bodied girl needs pieces as robust as she is, and this velvety smooth, wine colored dress is definitely bold enough to stand up to anything.

It marries harmoniously with gold and black patent, coating my curves with an elegance that lingers. Its mock sweetheart neckline is just sweet enough without being overpoweringly so and its mesh upper is a tasty detail indeed.

This is a look that will undoubtedly leave ’em longing for one last sip!

My Husband, My Artist

My Husband, My Artist

Art is a very vast form of expression. Fashion, writing, photography and music all have the potential to transport you to another world in an instant. The boundaries of art are limitless; but regardless of how many categories the word “art” covers, when I think “artist”, the classic image of a painter, in paint stained jeans, holding a palette in one hand and a brush in the other always comes to mind.

Perhaps because this is the image of my husband, my absolute favorite artist in the world (and not just because I’m biased). I have always dabbled in the arts, but my talents don’t compare to his. He is, in a word, amazing.

This was my Christmas present a couple of years ago; my portrait, alive with color and light.

Color Me Fearless

Color Me Fearless

Wearing color has long been a somewhat terrifying experience for me… I usually tend to stick mainly to neutrals and very dark shades, which are lovely, timeless and classic but have a certain safety about them that I am often afraid to venture beyond.

So, with 2014 fast approaching, and ideas of resolutions on the tips of everyone’s tongues, I’ve decided on a new years resolution I know I can keep; I WILL CONFRONT MY FEAR OF COLOR!!!

As a matter of fact, why wait till the new year? Why not get started early? And what better way to jump right in than by wearing the whole rainbow all at once? I’ve always said, go big or go home and this gorgeous multi-colored, curve hugging, head turning, envy inducing, covetable piece of wardrobe magic is absolutely the best physical embodiment of the expression!

I have never received so many compliments in my life! My husband (who is Haitian and speaks Creole and French) described the dress as “mal élevé” which directly translates to “rude” or “ill-mannered”, but In the good way; and I couldn’t agree more! This maverick of a cocktail dress, from Monif C, does what it pleases, shows no mercy and the result is epic!

In this fearless frock, paired with a peep-toe, sling back, black patent leather heel (I RARELY wear heels but this dress deserved them) and some simple gold jewelry, I turned heads all night and showed myself that I should be as fearless of color as this dress is of everything in its glorious, rainbow path!

(A shout out to the hubby for looking spiffy, as usual, too!)

The Beauty of Black & White

The Beauty of Black & White

When I see myself in a black & white photo, when the lighting is just right and I’m looking elegant and fabulous, I secretly wish that color didn’t exist and that I could look like this every moment of my life.

Don’t get me wrong, I love color; but there is something to be said for the timeless elegance of a great black & white shot! Not only do they camouflage a multitude of pigment related sins (like my rosacea) effortlessly, but the right B & W photo, with the contrast tweaked just perfectly, has this way of making anyone look like an old time Hollywood movie star.

There is a certain mystique – a curiosity about old photographs that I have long been fascinated with. What color was her dress? I wonder what color lipstick that was? Do you think it was red? Yes, red, it must have been red…

So add a little old world glamour to your selfie repertoire! Play around with your black & white photo editing options and let your inner Hollywood shine through!

At Ease in Stripes & Spikes

At Ease in Stripes & Spikes

One of my favorite ways to achieve new and edgy looks is to use inspiration from much more extreme and less mainstream styles. This casual, punk rock inspired look conveys the essence of it’s inspiration through the combining of bold stripes, and chunky, silver & black accessories, including cuff style & spiked bracelets, an oversized ball chain necklace and a great black leather look waist belt with lock and chain detail. The tuxedo stripe skinny jeans and almond shaped, patent leather look captoe flats evoke a military feel which is a major element in punk rock style.  Striking lips, superlight pink nails and soft, flowing, side swept hair complete this look for a perfectly balanced, punk chic style that is both classic and daring at the same time.

The details are what keep this look so balanced between subtlety and boldness because they are put together in such a way that you know exactly which style has inspired the look without feeling like it’s been overdone. .

The Art of Sequins

The Art of Sequins

It’s not everyday that you can wear this much sequins while still keeping a casual, chic look.

Addition Elle really got it right with this gorgeous sequin hoodie! It’s the perfect mix of casual and glam and probably one of my favorite pieces hanging in my closet right now.

Paired with a dark denim skinny, a neutral cork wedge, some mixed metallic bracelets, tiny earrings and a sleek sock bun, this look has the perfect balance between edgy glam and soft sophistication.
